Royal Morocco Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CASABLANCA

Upon arrival at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred by your private accessible transport driver to your hotel where you will be given time to settle in to get ready for your Moroccan adventure!

Meals: Dinner Included; Dinner at the Hotel/Riad

Accessibility Notes: Casablanca, as a more modern and international city, is fairly flat and accessible.  Since you will have private, accessible transport, any lack of accessible taxis and other public transportation will not be a problem!

DAY 2: RABAT & FES

From Casablanca, you’ll drive North to Rabat and enjoy this beautiful city. In Rabat, you can take in historical landmarks including the Le Tour Hassan, the Kings Palace, and Kasbah of the Udayas. The views from the coast are a worthwhile site to see as well! Afterward, head to the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco – Fes.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Hotel/Riad

Accessibility Notes: Like Casablanca, Rabat is flat and generally more accessible.  There may be occasional curbs that may require assistance to negotiate.  Le Tour Hassan is flat and easy to access.  The mausoleum has a flight of stairs and thus, is not accessible to see the inside for travelers in wheelchairs.

DAY 3: MEKNES, VOLUBILIS & FES | VOLUBILIS GUIDED TOUR

Today you head to the past as you imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago in the Roman empire when you go to Volubilis to experience the ancient Roman ruins. Although not paved (we recommend a manual wheelchair and hiring a pusher for the tour), these well-preserved ruins nestled on a beautiful countryside are not to be missed. Afterward, take a driving tour of Meknes and enjoy lunch in Moulay Idriss, one of the holiest cities in Morocco.  Return to Fes – a city that has sat on the same hillside for more than a millennium.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at a Local Restaurant

Accessibility Notes: Volubilis has a rough path of travel.  We highly suggest a manual wheelchair and a pusher for this tour.  There are more passable routes that our guides will take you on, but this tour does require an adventurous spirit to navigate the uneven paths of travel!

DAY 4: FES | FES MEDINA TOUR

Today, you will venture into the medina with your personal English-speaking guide along our specifically designed wheelchair adapted route. This is one of the world’s largest walled in cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the narrow, winding streets lined with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other art treasures of Morocco. A visit to the Kings Palace and the local pottery artisans are just a few places you can experience. For lunch, eat at a traditional restaurant in the heart of the medina. After lunch, complete the tour in this historic city and return to your hotel to freshen up before dinner.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at a Local Restaurant

Accessibility Notes: The Fes medina is set on a hill.  We have developed a few routes through the medina that cross the medina with minimal barriers. Expect some uneven paths of travel throughout the medina. What is unparalleled in Fes is the hospitality of the residents that will go over and above to make sure that you feel welcome here!

DAY 5: SAHARA | ADAPTED CAMEL SADDLE

After an early breakfast, begin the full day ascent from Fes, across the Middle Atlas Mountains and down to the majestic sands of the Sahara Desert. Most of the day will be spent winding our way through the beautiful forests, along jagged rock faces, and between Berber villages. Halfway, we will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. In the afternoon, you drive across the barren desert land toward the sand dunes.

In the afternoon, set off by camel for an hour trek out to the oasis where you will spend the night in deluxe Berber tents. If you think riding a camel is out of the question, think again – an adapted camel saddle is available! Whether you are quadriplegic, paraplegic or have balance disturbances, our saddle has been created with you in mind. Of course, you are the best judge of whether this will be desirable/possible for you. Alternatively, take a 4×4 out to the desert camp or stay at the auberge at the edge of the desert if preferred.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Berber Tents

Accessibility Notes: Sand and wheelchairs typically do not go together.  Here, we use Berber carpets, sweep away the extra soft sand and have poured concrete floors in the Deluxe Berber Tents to make an adapted Saharan getaway.  Additionally, we have created the first adapted camel saddle of its kind to make the impossible – possible.

DAY 6: OUARZAZATE

After breakfast, head to Ouarzazate and continue the tour of the many oases of Morocco. Palm tree groves abound along the edge of the Sahara. If desired, visit the Atlas Movie Studios, where you can see movie sets from several famous Hollywood motion pictures.  Relax at the Kasbah in Ouarzazate in the evening and enjoy the Saharan side of Morocco.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Kasbah

Accessibility Notes:  The movie studio is unpaved but is generally flat.  We recommend a manual wheelchair with someone pushing to enhance the experience.  Ouarzazate is a fairly flat city.

DAY 7: AIT BEN HADDOU & MARRAKECH | AIT BEN HADDOU

Today you will head to Marrakech. Along the way, you will stop at Ait Ben Haddou, the famous kasbah that is the backdrop of several famous movies. If desired, rent the Joelette Trekking Wheelchair and explore the kasbah in style! Afterward, you will cross over the High Atlas Mountains and along the road of 1,000 kasbahs to Marrakech. In the evening, head out to the famous Djemaa el-Fna. Coming alive at night with the local storytellers, entertainers, and mouth-watering barbeque pits, the square is well worth a visit!

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Hotel/Riad

Accessibility Notes: Ait Ben Haddou is generally inaccessible to wheelchairs.  In order to enjoy a tour of the kasbah, we recommend renting the Joelette Trekking Wheelchair (which includes 2 assistants) for this tour.  This 1.5-2 hour experience will allow you truly encounter the famous Ait Ben Haddou.

DAY 8: MARRAKECH | MARRAKECH MEDINA TOUR

After breakfast, you will have a guided tour of Marrakech, the southern pearl of Morocco. Tour along a specialized accessible route that will greatly reduce possible barriers.  Along the way, you will discover the intriguing Saadian Tombs, the Menara Basin, the serene Marjorelle Gardens, and many other exotic hidden treasures. After lunch, you will continue with the tour on to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and finish your exploration in the local souks (markets).

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at a Local Restaurant

Accessibility Notes: Marrakech is an excellent city for wheelchair users to visit.  With vastly flat paths of travel, much of the medina is accessible. There will be some rough paths of travel and you may encounter some small steps. Our guides will take care to avoid barriers during your medina tour.

DAY 9: MARRAKECH

Today is a “free day” in Marrakech.  So whether you want to head to Ourika Valley to take in some mountain views, visit the Palmeraie in Marrakech, take a day trip to Essaouira or just relax by the pool, you’ll have time for it.  Just let us know what you might enjoy doing and we’ll make it happen!

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Hotel/Riad

Accessibility Notes: Let us know what you would like to do during this day and we would be happy to fill you in with accessibility notes.  So whether you want to go to the mountains or the coast, we’ll make sure that it fits your ability level and needs.

DAY 10: AGADIR

Today you head to the coast.  The city was destroyed in the 1960’s by an earthquake and now has now been rebuilt into a beautiful, modern city in Morocco. It has beautiful beaches and still maintains the charm and hospitality of Morocco! With great views, relaxing beaches and amazing seafood – it has all the ingredients or a relaxing getaway! Ask us about renting a beach wheelchair to really enjoy your time in Agadir while reducing barriers!

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at the Hotel/Riad

Accessibility Notes: Agadir is quite accessible with dropped curbs in much of the city.  The city is flat and provides access to many of its features.  Most notably the boardwalk along the beach is quite accessible with ramps down to the sand and a long stretch of place to roll along to enjoy the beach.

DAY 11: AGADIR

Today is a great day to rest along the coast.  Enjoy the pool, the views and the smell of the ocean breeze as you enjoy the city of Agadir.  So whether you enjoy great food, great views, or a great time at the beach, you’ll have it all at your fingertips!

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at a Local Restaurant

Accessibility Notes: Agadir is quite accessible with dropped curbs in much of the city.  The city is flat and provides access to many of its features.  Most notably the boardwalk along the beach is quite accessible with ramps down to the sand and a long stretch of place to roll along to enjoy the beach.

DAY 12: AGADIR

Your last day in Agadir can be whatever you want it to be.  If you’d like to take a drive along the coast or simply relax at the beach, both are possibilities.  Just let us know what you want to do and we’ll make it happen.  Either way, soak up the perpetual warm weather than Agadir has to offer!

DAY 13: CASABLANCA | HASSAN II MOSQUE TOUR

It is time to return to Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, where you started this fantastic journey. In the early afternoon, you will visit Hassan II, the 5th largest mosque in the world. It is the only mosque in Morocco that allows non-Muslims to enter and is mostly accessible to wheelchair users. The architecture and exquisite details are a wonderful site to see and a great cultural “bookend” to your trip to Morocco.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Included; Dinner at a Local Restaurant

Accessibility Notes: The Hassan II Mosque is vastly accessible with a small step to enter.  The washing rooms are inaccessible due to a large flight of stairs.  Moroccan hospitality will often lead to an offer to carry a wheelchair user down to this area.  This is not recommended for obvious safety reasons!

DAY 14: DEPARTURE FROM CASABLANCA

With lifelong memories, stories of your journey to share and souvenirs in your suitcase your driver – and new friend – will make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time for departure at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport.

Meals: Breakfast Included

Royal Morocco Tour Accessibility

Peace of mind is vital when booking international travel.  This is especially true for accessible travel.  There is a time and a place for surprises – and accessibility is not one of them.  When you book an accessible tour, you need to know what you will encounter.

General

The Royal Morocco Tour is rated to have “Moderate Accessibility” on our access scale.  For this tour, 80% of the tour is rated at “High Accessibility” with the desert requiring an adapted experience. Additionally, as expected, water access on a beach requires you to navigate sand from the ramp to the water.  That said, there is a beach wheelchair available for rent if desired.  As with all of our tours, you will have accessible transport and a wide range of accessible hotels and/or riads to choose from on your trip around Morocco.

Items to Note

Rest Stops

Along the autoroute, there are regular rest stops with accessible bathrooms. Along the road to the desert, accessible rest stops are spaced farther apart – approximately 3 hours between stops.

Accommodations

All of our accommodations are personally verified and measured to ensure accessibility for you. During your trip to the desert, the range of hotels is more limited.  We prioritize accessibility over star level of hotel to ensure the highest level of access.  Our deluxe desert tent accommodations are adapted and our widely used by our clients in wheelchairs. Soft sand is swept away on paths, 3-in-1 toilet commodes are placed over the toilets to provide grab bars as needed and there are roll-in showers.

Excursions

You will mostly encounter flat surfaces or access ramps as necessary.  The Roman ruins of Volubilis, the heart of the ancient Fes medina and desert camel ride are adapted experiences. To experience the Roman ruins up close, there is uneven and rougher terrain. In Fes, you may encounter an occasional step that requires a small portable ramp (for power wheelchair users).  The desert requires a transfer to a 4×4 and to the adapted camel saddle. Our team is available to assist with these transfers. Your wheelchair will be transported in the back of the 4×4 so you can continue to use your chair at the desert camp. There are beach wheelchairs available for rent if desired.

The best way for us to fully adapt this tour to meet your specific needs is for us to begin the conversation. Click below and start planning your obligation-free trip today!
