The summer months are fast approaching and I am happy to turn my attention to the lakes of Morocco! Lake Lalla Takerkoust is a manmade lake built in the early 1930′s. It is approximately 35-40 minutes outside of Marrakech towards the Berber town of Amizmiz. The lake is peaceful and clean, surrounded by a handful of auberges, restaurants and kasbahs. Lalla Takerkoust is a beautiful place to stop for lunch, dinner or drinks. Boating is currently prohibited on the lake but fishing and swimming are possible activities.
The beach is mostly hardened earth with medium to small pebbles scattered throughout. The lack of sand is great for wheelchair users but assistance may still be required along certain areas of the beach. A manual or all-terrain wheelchair is suggested.
Is it Accessible? What to Expect?
The beach itself is largely accessible. There is at least one restaurant with several accessible features and access to the beach, however, it does not currently have wheelchair accessible toilets. We hope that will change very soon!
